
SSCC
Overview
The Social Science Computing Core team oversees the Social Science Computing Core services, provided in collaboration with the Systems Engineering & Operations (SEO) team, which are used by researchers across the University. The SSCC’s computing resources include interactive Windows and Linux compute clusters, Slurm clusters for large-scale CPU and GPU computing, and a high-security environment for working with sensitive and restricted data. The SSCC team also directly supports the SSCC’s customers, including both research computing facilitation and statistical consulting.
What We Do
- Oversee SSCC services: ensure SSCC meets the research computing needs of its customers at an affordable cost.
- Act as a bridge between researchers and technical staff: help SEO’s system engineers understand researchers’ challenges, and help researchers understand how to use the available computing resources efficiently.
- Help researchers use the SSCC’s compute clusters.
- Provide statistical consulting.
- Teach workshops on statistical software, data wrangling skills, and applied statistics.
- Create and maintain the SSCC Knowledge Base, especially the Statistics and Data Science Knowledge Base.
