Solutions Development and Innovation
Overview
The Solutions Development & Innovation team utilizes campus and enterprise software platforms to create technical solutions to automate and improve business and IT processes across the College of Letters & Science. As solution innovators, we work with our stakeholders and enterprise partners to create custom applications and shape services that meet the specific needs of our College’s administrative and departmental stakeholders. We collaborate closely with numerous L&S administrative units (e.g., Finance & Research Administration, Human Resources, Teaching & Learning, & ITS), L&S departments, and the campus Low Code Solutions (LCS) team.
What We Do
Configure and maintain College-specific, enterprise services
- HaloITSM – L&S administration’s ticketing & asset management platform, utilized by Finance, Research Admin, IT, and HR teams
- Datarails – L&S’ budget reporting software that supplements Workday reporting
- Elevator – L&S’ Digital Asset Management (DAM) tool
Administer College-allocated domains in campus low code/no code platforms
- Betty Blocks – campus’ visual coding environment
- Kuali Build – campus’ robust form and approval platform
Build, configure, & maintain applications and technical solutions in campus platforms and environments
- L&S Course Exceptions – a Betty Blocks application that helps L&S track, report, and keep historical record of ad hoc course exceptions granted to students
- L&S Summer Process – a multi-environment workflow that streamlines administrative collaboration around instructor and researcher employment, research, and pay during the Summer periods
- L&S STS & Student Assistant Hiring – a Kuali Build platform app collection that assists with hiring a variety of staffing types utilizing campus’ Budget Approach model
- L&S Expense Report – a Kuali Build application (integrated with L&S’ ticketing platform) that gathers expense report information to speed the entry and processing within Workday
- L&S Strategic Staffing – a Betty Blocks application (integrated with L&S’ ticketing platform) that facilitates the submission of proposed renewable and fixed term hire requests for review by L&S HR and Finance

AI Coding
- currently collaborating with various campus stakeholders to design campus’ forthcoming AI coding environment – once active, utilizing it to quickly build applications and technical solutions to meet L&S’s complex business needs
Expanding campus integrations and services with our L&S-specific applications and services
- working with Badger Data Warehouse (Denodo), Workday EIB uploads, Person API, etc.
Expanding the customer base and feature sets of our enterprise services
- automating departmental IT asset management within HaloITSM
- expanding Elevator for departmental use in Canvas and L&S administrative media storage
